Beach beauty...

It has been a while since I last posted but I have been slowly rebuilding my craft stash. I had not realised that it had slowly dwindled so I needed an excuse to buy some more bits and pieces!

We recently celebrated a rather large birthday in our household - Andrew turned *whispers* 30! After searching for the perfect card in too many card shops than I care to remember, I decided enough was enough and I needed to stop finding excuses not to make one!

Here is the beach themed card I came up with! As usual, lots of glitter and bright colours. It took me a while to get it right since it had been a while and to be fair, I was doing this once Alex had gone to bed so I was pretty tired myself!

My favourite bit has to be the surf boards with the sentiment with the glittery sand.

I had to make a second card on behalf of Alex so I kept the monkey theme alive and used a similar range of stamps. Alex is often called a cheeky little monkey so it seemed very apt!

Andrew has a silly game that he plays with Alex called 'The Rocket' which gets him all hyped up (usually before bedtime!) so I wanted to include this in some way on his birthday card.

I often find with the big numbered cards, the number often takes centre stage. I didn't want this to be the case with these cards so the numbers are not exactly hidden but don't overshadow the fun parts of the card.

I love working with orange and lime green as I think they compliment each other well whilst being a bit quirky.

Watch this space - more from me soon!

First time for everything...

Hello everyone! Hope your week is going well. I finally managed to find some time the other week to make two cards - both for my younger sister who is in the USA. My older sister is out there at the moment to visit so it forced me to get my act together and get crafty!

I didn't know where to start as I hadn't made a card in so long but I did my usual trick and flicked through my papers to see what I was drawn too. I really liked the pink and orange together and thought the blue and green worked well too.

My first 'auntie' card! As I hadn't made a card in months, I thought I did pretty well considering I made both in just under and hour and a half (this one I made whilst looking after my little baba too - he was sat in his bouncer watching me work then fell asleep - card making obviously isn't for him!)

Apologies for the rubbish picture, I didn't have time to take a decent one as my sister had to pack them so these are courtesy of my phone! I think I prefer the second one, I really do like those colours together - calm and peaceful....very unlike me at the moment! That hippo is too cute :)

Those that know me love a bit of glitter, gotta get it in there somewhere! It is usually the lettering as I like it to grab people's attention.

What do you think?

Saturday, July 14, 2012 has been a while!

I stumbled across my blog after not visiting a while and couldn't believe how long ago my last post was! Lots has changed in my life...I now have a 3 month old (little boy) and I'm engaged! It has been a crazy year so far but an amazing time. Alexander was born on 3rd April 2012 (6 days late) but well worth the wait!

So...what have I missed? I would really like to start getting back into my crafting as I do miss it. I have a little haven in our house with all my craft bits and bobs - Alexanders nursery is now what used to be my craft room!

I can't remember if I have posted some of these cards but apologies if they are is more an inspiration post for me to try and get my mojo back!

Anyway, hope to post again soon with a card or scrapbook page!

Monkeying around...

Evening all! It has been a while since I have posted - I kinda lost my craft mojo but having had a few birthdays and special occasions happening recently I've been forced to find it! I am loving 'citrus' colours and I have always had a penchant for 'hot pink', especially if it is mixed with glitter! It was my sister's birthday back in September and I wanted to make her a fun card. The monkey image kind of reminded me of the two of us (she is my little sister)...

I seem to be into my 'layering' at the moment and this card contains several of them! I've been rooting around in my craft stash to try and use products that are either unused/unopened or have not been used in a while. I hadn't used my Martha Stewart punch for a while so out that came...

The glittery letters are from America (I can't remember where I bought them from - I bought waaaay too much, and that was 2 yrs ago - yikes!) and seem to fit perfectly with the theme of the card. I had a bit of trouble getting them to fit but managed in the end...

Hope everyone is well. I am trying to get back into the Craft World - it seems to be a lot harder now that I have moved out. I thought it would be easier! Hopefully I will have a bit more time soon. I'll do a few more posts this week to show you a few more cards that I have managed to make.

A cat wedding?

Two of my good friends (that I have made here in Cambridge) got married yesterday. It was such a beautiful wedding and I can say hand on heart that it was one of the nicest weddings Andrew and I have been to! Plus the rain held off which made it extra special. Congrats guys!

I had looked in a few shops for wedding cards as I didn't have any in my card stash and didn't think I would have time to make one but I was getting very frustrated trying to find a decent wedding card so felt I had to make a personalised one for them! They have a gorgeous little cat called Amber so I thought this stamp would be ideal for them! I also wanted to make a 'non-traditional' card for them to stand out a bit...

Lilac seems to be very 'in' at the moment fashion-wise so I took a bit of inspiration from dresses I had seen on the red carpet...

I thought it would be nicer to personalise with their initials rather than their full names...

Absolutely love these roses...

Stamped using bronze ink and accented with gold pen...

Something a bit different? Definitely colours I wouldn't normally put together...

Pleased with the way it turned out! They had a postbox for everyone to put their cards into at the wedding (very cool idea) so hopefully I'll get some feedback soon from the happy couple :)

Have a good week everyone!

Into the blue

No prizes for guessing the theme of this card! :) I made this mermaid themed birthday card for one of my friends recently after having a root around in my stamp stash and stumbling upon one of my all time favourite Anya images...

I know that I really need to work on my colouring and practise more as I see other works of art on various blogs and get very jealous!

Another way that I like to add ribbon to a card instead of directly onto the card. Created the punched heart shaped hole with a trusted Martha Stewart punch

Some bubbles, sequins and various different bits of textured paper

I'm slowly starting to get back into the swing of things and popping by people's blogs is definitely helping my inspiration!
